Leadership in the Band
The Instrumental Music program at Sacred Heart is built on strong foundations that create meaningful leadership opportunities and training for the future.
Section Leaders

each instrument section in the Concert Band has one section leader

students are encouraged to apply for this position in June. Candidates are selected based on application and instrumental technique.

selected students participate in a day-long training session the week before classes start, as well as periodic meetings and check-ins throughout the year

responsibe for running sectional rehearsals (with teacher notes), building morale within her section, on-the-spot help during full-band rehearsals while the teacher works with another section, runners during concerts and competitions, spokeswomen for the band, leading band retreat activities, etc.
Ensemble Resource Manager

responsible for: weekly band attendance, sheet music distribution, maintenance of sheet music library, instrument inventory, etc.

Training Tomorrow's Leaders
-
Mentorship Program: students in Secondary II are partnered with students in Secondary I to build confidence on the instrument, learn valuable peer-teaching strategies, ensemble/ rehearsal etiquette, and to build team spirit

Future Section Leaders Program: students in Secondary II and III who are interested in becoming a Concert Band section leader in the future become 'apprenticed' to existing leaders to learn the responsibilities and strategies they will need
