Although I am primarily a high school music (band) teacher, I often teach grade 7 world history at my school (we’re in Quebec where high school is grades 7-11!) I have been teaching the course in a more didactic style with specific inquiry-based activities but this coming year I want to reorient my teaching in this course entirely.
For my final project in 'Self-Regulated Learning,' I would like to use the example goal of “Redesigning a section/unit of a school course so that it is inquiry-based and includes the foundational principles of SRL.”
→ My Distal Goal: Create a complete unit (including assessment and visual materials) on Ancient Egypt for grades 6-9 that is inquiry-based and which includes the foundational principles of SRL.
→ My platform for electronic portfolio: (this) web blog chronicling development of the unit
→ My method of self assessment:
• Estimated timeline for completion of all tasks
• Checklist of waypoint tasks (having someone edit my work, having a student try an
activity, etc.) to accomplish
